Masjid Raya Baiturahman or Baiturahman Grand Mosque
This mosque located in downtown Banda Aceh, the Aceh is a mosque in Pasar Aceh community pride. Maybe you will asked further more , where is Aceh located ? Aceh is at the tip of Sumatra island, the western most part of Indonesia.
 

History records in earlier times in this place stood a mosque Kingdom of Aceh. This mosque was built in 1612 by Sultan Iskandar Muda, or another sources said earlier in 1292 by Sultan Alaidin Mahmudsyah. But when the Dutch attacked the city of Banda Aceh in 1873, this mosque was burned, but to dampen the anger of the people of Aceh in 1875, Dutch rebuilding of a mosque that stood majestic as his successor today. Stated that Tengku Qadhi Malikul Adil becoming the first Imam for this great mosque.






This single domed mosque and was built on December 27, 1883. Next Mosque is being expanded to 3 dome in 1935. Last expanded again to 5 dome (1959-1968). This mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Indonesia which has the form of a sweet, attractive carvings, a large yard and feels very cool if it was in the room mosque. That is why I am suggesting you to come and see this historical building from Indonesia. 



When Tsunami hits Indonesia especially Banda Aceh at Dec 26th, 2008, lots of people took refuge in this mosque. Witnesses at the time of the tsunami hits in Aceh. Baiturahman Mosque is the only solid building standing when hit by the tsunami. Places where many injured victims treated after the tsunami. The tsunami which destroyed almost the entire area in Banda Aceh at the moment, leaving little damage to the mosque this Baiturahman highway.
